After the Tax Deferral Scheme, which was announced last week, on 24th March 2019 the government has announced new measures to support wages in the current difficult circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. These measures will apply retrospectively form the 9th March. The new measures basically distinguish between two segments:
- Sectors which have suffered drastically due to the Covid-19 pandemic or had to temporarily suspended operations on the order of the Superintendent of Public Health; listed in Annex A
- Sectors that have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; listed in Annex B
Industries falling under Annex A
• Full-time employees operating in this sector can get a monthly wage of €800
• Self employed persons operating in this sector can get a monthly wage of €800
• Part-time employees will be eligible for wages up to €500
Industries falling under Annex B situated in Gozo
• Full time employees operating in this sector can get two days’ salary per week equivalent to €320 per month
• Part time employees operating in this sector can get two days’ salary per week equivalent to €200 per month
• Self-employed persons without employees can get 2 day’s salary per week, equivalent to €320 per month
• Self-employed persons with employees can get 3 day’s salary per week, equivalent to €480 per month
Industries falling under Annex B situated in Malta
• Full time employees operating in this sector can get one day’s salary per week equivalent to €160 per month
• Part time employees operating in this sector can get one day’s salary per week equivalent to €100 per month
